If you have a good reason to use "mv" then certainly, use it!

But there are plenty of good naming conventions for the scenario you
give...
Like, start a new directory of results every day, week or month...


/fs/experiments/y2019/m12/d30/fileX.ZZZ ...

OF course, if you want or need to mv, or cp and/or rm the metadata out of
the filesystem, then eventually you do so!
